S. Jack Hu was named chancellor of UC Riverside on May 28. Several days later, he traveled to UCR for some faculty, staff, and student visits. The University Relations news & content team spoke with him during his visit; following is a transcript of that conversation.  UCR News: You have held successful, long-term leadership positions at University of Michigan and at University of Georgia. You no doubt had the opportunity to ride out your career in a comfortable, rewarding environment. What compelled you instead to pursue the chancellorship at UC Riverside?

UC Riverside Chancellor-designate S. Jack Hu met with university and student leaders during a brief visit and tour of campus on Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30. The quick stop came a day after University of California President Michael V. Drake announced Hu’s selection as UCR’s next chancellor on Wednesday, May 28. A senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Georgia, Hu will begin his new role on July 15.

University of California President Michael V. Drake, M.D. announced on Wednesday, May 28 the selection of S. Jack Hu, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Georgia, as UC Riverside’s next chancellor. The UC Board of Regents approved the appointment during a special meeting held at the UC Student & Policy Center in Sacramento.
