Immigration Update

January 12, 2018

Dear Campus Community,

Earlier this week, a federal district judge granted an injunction to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The judge’s decision means that the DACA program must remain open for renewals until a final legal determination is rendered.

While this is a positive development, it does not alleviate the uncertainty faced by DACA recipients and their loved ones. Similarly, recent announcements that the federal government will be ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Sudan has raised additional concerns across our community.

The important contributions and perspectives of students, staff, faculty, and visitors from around the world are key to fostering UCR’s vibrant educational environment. If you have questions or concerns, I encourage you to contact UCR Undocumented Student Programs. Additionally, the UC Immigrant Legal Services Center provides free legal support on immigration matters to all current UC students and their immediate family.
